The Hidden Agenda Behind the Museum De Fundatie

“An Incredible Presence”
In the past, we saw it mockingly as an egg, or perhaps a cloud. Dutch Design Awards commented it " has an incredible presence".¹ It’s a move that has left both architectural enthusiasts, historians, and local people all scratching their heads: the Museum De Fundatie’ latest addition in 2013 ---- a monstrous elliptical "cloud" or a giant, reflective egg perched precariously atop its historic neoclassical building.
Over the past decade, we've still been scratching our heads in confusion. Why?
As we all know, the Museum De Fundatie, located in the heart of Zwolle, the Netherlands, is a historic site, a proud testament to neoclassical grandeur.² Originally, it’s a neoclassical courthouse built in 1838, holding a dignified presence, embodying the architectural values of its time, until Bierman Henket architecten entered. The masterminds behind this audacious egg-drop, which has turned this historic gem into the punchline of a shiny egg joke, scrambled peace at Museum De Fundatie. Is that a hostile takeover or an aesthetic crime? Either way, it seems even worse...
Regarding all this, we found it astonishing in every way. Every time watched it, we’d ask why, as if watching a surreal comedy. One architect once compared it to a flashy neon-coloured UFO landing in a historic garden. With the United States now hosting the UFO Hearings,³ perhaps it's time we take things seriously.⁴ Seriously though, when viewed through this lens, it all starts to make kind of sense, surprisingly.
De Fundatie was a proud example of neoclassical architecture.⁵ Its dignified columns and symmetrical façade were a testament to Zwolle’s rich cultural heritage.

"A Harmonious Scenery Interrupted by Unexpected Guest"
In addition, this building is situated on the border between the medieval city centre and the 19th-century parkland with its serene canals,⁶ where the tranquil elegance and grandeur of historic architecture meet the natural beauty of the surroundings—until Bierman Henket architecten made a grand entrance with its egg-drop. The scene there is now like a serene symphony interrupted by a blaring vuvuzela.
In the historic heart of Zwolle, where buildings share a classical aesthetic, while the "egg" disrupts the visual unity.
"The Dazzling Egg-shaped Structure on the Building Complex"
This intervention at Museum De Fundatie is a betrayal of architectural principles and historical respect. The original building, a beacon of neoclassical elegance, is now overshadowed and humiliated by an addition that screams of modernity but whispers of arrogance. The "egg" addition is a stark reminder of what happens when contemporary design bulldozes over historical integrity.
Who on earth would do this?
Since 2005, following internal renovation by architect Gunnar Daan, the building has been the home of Museum De Fundatie.⁷ Its conversion to a museum allowed it to serve the public without sacrificing its architectural integrity.
"Screenshots of Selected Recent Exhibitions"
Museum De Fundatie has an extraordinary collection of exhibits, including classic and modern art works, sculptures, paintings, photography, etc. The collections trace the evolution of art from ancient times to the present, covering masterpieces by not only local Dutch artists but also internationally renowned artists, such as Rembrandt, Saenredam, Turner, Monet, Rodin, Van Gogh, Mondrian and Van der Leck.⁸ Everything there is reflecting its high artistic value and cultural significance.
In this majestic, or more precisely, formerly majestic, historical building, the confluence of human art took place, making it a sanctuary of human civilization. The confluence of these remarkable exhibitions and collections has further elevated the historical and cultural value of the building, making it a treasured site of human heritage. Who on earth would hate this?
They claim that the success of the art exhibitions makes expansion of space necessary,⁹ but they could have chosen not to disturb this national monument. Or, like any normal designer on the planet, they could have enriched or perfected it. They had every choice, yet they chose to disrupt it all. Architect Hubert-Jan Henket succeeded in avoiding all the better options, persuading the client not to add an extension next to the existing building or an underground extension.¹⁰ Instead Henket designed an extension reflective monstrosity on top of the monumental building.
Is this an attempt by extraterrestrials to target human history, arts and cultural, probing as a first step towards invading human civilization?
I assume you may still be skeptical and even find this amusing. However, we’ve been in exploring further evidence. Read on, if you dare.
"Perseverance at the Highest Point"
The architects once explained that their design "couples the classical, static building with the fluid dynamics of a contemporary extension in a vertical direction."¹¹ But why must this extension be vertical, even if it disrupts the previously harmonious skyline? In other words, why insist on making it taller than all the surrounding buildings?
"Unidentified Aerial Phenomena"
In addition, they claim to use "a blue and white glaze that helps the structure match the colour of the sky and merges into the heavens."¹² Why harmonize with the sky instead of the original building? Is this an addition to the architecture or something laid from the sky?
Why are they so fixated on altering the skyline and matching the sky? --To send signals away through the sky! And then there's the odd north-facing curved window, abandoning the superior lighting options of double-sided or even multi-sided windows. The answer unveils yet another layer—it's a monitor.
Let's just take another hard look at that first picture again. There is no so-called ‘Fluid Dynamics’, ‘Art Cloud’ nonsense harmony with the sky's colour. Their explanations and embellishments cannot hide the fact that this is a giant surveillance device.
Placing a monitor at the highest point in a prime central location that can send signals through the sky—doesn't this sound like something extraterrestrials would do?
"Evil Oppression"
The bloated UFO overwhelms the original structure, erasing its balanced proportions. The grand portico once exuded nobility, now it just looks fragile. This addition isn’t a respectful dialogue but a loud declaration of dominance over the historic building. Disproportionate and domineering, the egg-drop undermines the building's historic legacy, rendering it a mere pedestal, stripping it of its pride and dignity. As if the original structure is crying out for help beneath, while this monitor, disguised as an egg, with its arrogant and overbearing presence, seeks to crush and erase human civilization. It's like they wish the historic building and its museum collections would just vanish. Doesn’t everything sound like aliens?
"Material"
Why choose such a material? Even if it completely contradicts the solid, classical stonework of the neoclassical architecture in both texture and tone.
Let’s zoom in: if taken a closer look, you'll find that these three-dimensional tiles are further evidence of extraterrestrial intervention. Because, for human beings, if there had to be so many switches (55,000, I’ve heard), they would place them inside.
"A human being Installing ‘Switches’ with a Wry Smile"
We’ve also investigated the progress of the project and found it even more suspicious. The customary debates and public inquiry procedures were considerably shortened.¹³ Planning permission was granted in record time.¹⁴ What kind of magical force could have tricked the usually rigid and meticulous procedures, which should have prevented this farce, to be all absent? Who could speed up the clock, skipping over the necessary scrutiny and discussion in our system? – Aliens!
As Zwolle grapples with its architectural oddity, one thing is clear: we should all sound the alarm to guard against such invasion. Whoever push this absurdity forward, can only be considered an enemy of human architecture and civilization.
Yesterday it was a bond between mediaeval fortified inner city and 19th century open park, in love and peace. Today, it has pierced the sky, becoming a link between human civilization and extraterrestrials
One of the most famous Sherlock Holmes quotes is that: “when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.”
The uninvited guest behind the Architectural unidentified aerial phenomena on top of Museum De Fundatie, has some in doubt and some too afraid to believe.
